A STORY
LET ME TELL YOU
"ULYSSE'S" ICE CREAM
Between myths and legends
According to Homer's Odyssey, the island of Pantelleria, which he called Ogygia, was the home of Calypso, goddess of the sea and daughter of Atlas.
Legend has it that Calypso was punished for siding with her father in the Titanomachy, so she was exiled to the island of Ogygia. Ulysses, having escaped the terrible vortex of Cariddi, landed on the island meeting Calypso, who fell madly in love with the hero, keeping him with her for seven years, offering him immortality. Ulysses, who kept the desire to return to Ithaca, was helped by Athena, his protector, who asked Zeus to intervene. Zeus sent Hermes to persuade Calypso to let him go and she reluctantly agreed.
